The whole project is planned against the high estimate of US$585,000 — underestimating is how high-altitude construction goes wrong. What we are raising now is the smallest and most urgent slice of it.

成本表本身有一處內部矛盾:各項小計相加為 442K,但 Personal Retreat 欄寫 420K, 差 22K,而總計是用 420 算的。需向 SMA 釐清。

The cost sheet contradicts itself: the subtotals add to 442K while “Personal Retreat” is written as 420K, a 22K gap, and the grand total uses 420. To be clarified with SMA.

It is open to villagers, trekkers and retreatants alike — the kitchen and dining hall for group retreats when there is a programme, and the rest of the time a café and community room anyone may walk into. What we are raising now is the ground it stands on.

工法How it is built 石板瓦一片片以手工鋪上。沒有要用水泥。錢付給的是這雙手。 Slate laid by hand, one piece at a time. No concrete. The money pays for these hands.

估價單金額 US$6,115.55,加上場勘、監工、當地監工薪資,這一期抓 US$10,000。 每一層護持都對得上估價單上的實際工項。

The bill of quantities comes to US$6,115.55. With the site visit, supervision and the local site supervisor's wages, this round is set at US$10,000. Every giving tier maps to a real line on that document.

Seven beats

第 4、5 兩拍是讀了傳記之後才有的。它們把整個故事從 「一個小村子需要幫助」變成「一件做過一次、有效、現在要再做一次的事」。

Beats 4 and 5 came only after reading the biographies. They turn the story from “a small village needs help” into “something that was done once, worked, and is being done again.”

  1. 村子只剩三、四戶。The village is down to three or four households. 孩子去了加德滿都和國外。「我們總是覺得無聊、孤單。」 The children left for Kathmandu and abroad. “We always feel bored, lonely.”
  2. 他們曾經有一位喇嘛。They once had a lama. 村裡人叫他 Papa。「即使在半夜,他從不拒絕。」 They called him Papa. “Even in the middle of the night, he never said no.”
  3. Papa 走了,他們以為完了。Papa died, and they thought it was over. 2020 年。這是整個 campaign 的支點。 2020. This is the pivot of the whole campaign.
  4. 但這件事以前發生過。But this has happened before. 傳記記載:六十年前那位瑜伽士抵達時,瘟疫剛過,山谷只剩約五戶人家。 他在山上閉關九年。等他下來,村子已經活了過來。 The biography records that when the first yogi arrived sixty years ago, a plague had just passed and only about five households remained. He spent nine years in strict retreat on that mountain. By the time he came down, the village had recovered.
  5. 而且這是囑咐,不是計劃。And it is an instruction, not a plan. 法王指示必須在竹舉父子的法座建立新的閉關中心,並指定第三代承擔主要責任。 他不是選了這件事,是這件事交到他手上。 His Holiness instructed that a new retreat centre must be established at the seat of the Drubgyud father and son, and named the third generation to take primary responsibility. He did not choose this. It was handed to him.
  6. 沒有房子,就沒有人來。Without buildings, nobody comes. 「我們請加德滿都派一位喇嘛,冬天有人過世時能做法事。他們說好,但沒人來,因為這裡都是空的。」 “We asked for a lama to come. They said yes, but nobody came, because here everything is empty.”
  7. 現在要挖第一道地基。Now we dig the first foundation. 山上十月底封凍。期限不是我們訂的。 The mountain closes at the end of October. We did not set the deadline.
